ROOTS & WINE

Terroir · People · Story

The Winelands as they actually are. Warm, knowledgeable and completely unpretentious.

This is not the posh Cape Winelands tour. No pretension, no performance — but a ton of knowledge and genuine interaction with the people who actually make the wine. The families who have farmed the same land for generations.

The winemaker who talks to you about calcrete soils and what they do to a Chardonnay. The producer who opens a Cap Classique and tells you exactly why it tastes the way it does.

Syrah, Shiraz, Chenin, Chardonnay, Cap Classique — the Robertson Valley has a diversity of styles that surprises even those who think they know South African wine. Surrounded by mountains, river and orchards, in the kind of quiet and unhurried atmosphere where a real conversation can actually happen.

For: wine lovers, curious travellers, couples — connoisseur or not

"The diversity of what grows in this valley surprised me completely. Syrah, Cap Classique, and Chardonnay  all within a few kilometres of each other. Unpretentious, generous and genuinely passionate people behind every glass."

— Pierre M., Bordeaux

"Came for the wine. Stayed for the people. Left with both."

— David L., Durban
